"DECENTER MEN, DECENTER MEN" they say, WHAT I NEED TO DECENTER is FOOD
First, let me say this -- I am so, so elated that I was given the topic of FOOD to work on. Honestly, what could be better?
Now letâs talk about how amazing food is. Asides from making in an impact in the society one thing I adore the most, is FOOD! Food honestly is not just about survival; it is about culture, memory, and joy.
Every bite carries a story and sense of where it came from, how it was prepared, and the people who gather around it to munch. Food is a universal language that needs no translation.
Beyond nutrition, food plays a vital role in culture. In Nigeria, jollof rice is more than a dish, it is a symbol of celebration. In Italy, pasta is cherished as part of daily life. In Japan,
sushi showcases both artistry and tradition. Across the globe, food is a centerpiece for festivals, family gatherings, and rituals, uniting people in joy and togetherness.
The Essence of Food
- Food is the heartbeat of life: Think about it. Without food, humans canât survive. But with food, life becomes so much more than survival. Food comforts us when weâre sad (hello, fried rice after a heartbreak???). It energizes us when weâre weak. It gathers families at the table and strangers at festivals
- Food is also the oldest storyteller: A plate of rice and stew in West Africa doesnât just taste good, it whispers history about farming, trade, and tradition. A taco in Mexico carries centuries of culture, resilience, and creativity. Food tells us where weâve been, and sometimes, where weâre going - like future âspace foodâ made for astronauts,
etc.
- And letâs be real: Food is also the worldâs most trusted peacemaker. You may not agree with someoneâs politics or religion, but put a steaming plate of good food between you and suddenly, youâre having a decent conversation.
Types of Food (An Endless Adventure)
There are lots of foods that exist, I could spend a whole day talking about FOOD. Here's a few
- SWEETS AND DESSERTS: Ah, desserts? Cakes that melt in your mouth, chocolates that understand your emotions, ice cream that never judges you no matter how many scoops you take. They may not be âessentialâ in the biological sense, but emotionally? Theyâre a lifeline. After all, who needs therapy when you have a cup of banofee?
- PROTEINS: Proteins are the builders. Theyâre the reason your muscles repair after climbing stairs you had no business climbing. Whether itâs meat/fish on a grill, or humble porridge beans bubbling in a pot, proteins are the backbone of strength. Plus, have you ever noticed that most comfort foods sneak in protein? Burgers, soups,
suya, egusi soup, they all know what theyâre doing.
- STREET FOODS: Letâs not forget the rebels of the food world: street food. From puff-puff in Nigeria to hot dogs in New York and crepes in Paris, these foods prove you donât need fancy cutlery to eat good. Street food is fast, flavorful, and often more honest than anything in a five star restaurant.

CONCLUSION:
When we put food at the center of our conversations, we find joy, peace, and belonging. Food nourishes our bodies, entertains our minds, and glues our communities together. And honestly, I couldnât be happier that I got food as my topic. Because when you think about it, food isnât just lifeâs seasoning, food is life itself.
